Each spring around April, the Havørred Fyn Project releases more than 350.000 juvenile trouts, smolt. These fish are released to ensure a sustainable sea trout fishing, based on the calculated trout popultation that Fyn should have, if all its waterways were in optimal conditons. We work hard in the rivers, so that we can limit our stocking of fish each year, eventually reaching a point where stocking should not be nessasary, and the trout populations would be strong and independent of our actions.
Since 1990 the County of Fyn has built fish passages around, or removed 164 of the 218 obstacles so that the sea trout and other fish and animals can migrate freely. This has allowed the trout access to several hundred kilometres of watercourses which previously were inaccessible.
Now Sea Trout Fyn, Fyn’s Laksefisk and DTU-Aqua are starting the history’s largest research of marking trout’s in Denmark. From spring 2023, ALL stocked trout smolts on Funen and the islands of Langeland and Ærø will be marked. In the future, the tagged fish will be caught by anglers and included in a data collection that will give a clear picture of the effects of the releases.
Now a new chapter in the big labeling experiment begins – and you can be an important help!
We have already heard rumors that fin clipped smolts have been caught on Als and Avernakø. The smolt has thus already crossed large expanses, and the fish have spread well and truly along the coasts of Funen.
Now you have the chance to join us for a restoration project here on Fyn, where you can elevate your fishing holiday by giving back to nature together with us!
