A 9 foot light carbon fibre rod with a casting weight of about 7 – 23 grams is the perfect weapon. A longer rod or a heavier casting weight is unnecessary and ineffective. An alternative to the above mentioned type of rod would be an 8 foot light spinning rod with a casting weight of about 5 – 15 grams.

The light spinning gear is effective and fun when the water is quiet and the weather is good, but it is only a supplement to the standard gear.
